Email Synchronization synchronizes the status of a voice mail message delivered by IntraMail Email Integration with the message recipient’s email inbox. When Email Integration is enabled and the Sync when Read disposition option is chosen, the status of the voice message is shown in the user’s email client when the message is opened. For example:

A co-worker leaves a message for Sarah on her office DSX keyset while she is traveling.

Email Integration (with the Sync when Read disposition enabled) delivers the email to Sarah’s smart phone email client.

Sarah opens the email, which causes the message to be saved in the DSX. When the email finishes loading, the Message Status will show that it has been saved.

Later on in the day, Sarah calls her mailbox to clean out old messages and deletes the message for which she earlier received a notification.

The next time she opens her smart phone email client and reviews her email, the Message Status will show that the voice message has been deleted in the system.

DSX Email Synchronization works with all types of email accounts (i.e. client-based and web-based). While not complete two-way synchronization (i.e. the voice mail message status does not affect the email message read/deleted status), this method provides an easy to achieve solution for most users.

Email Synchronization requires the NEC DSX IntraMail Pro 4-Port or NEC DSX IntraMail Pro 8-Port voicemail.

The new Wakeup Call feature provides Wakeup Call capability for Motels and Bed & Breakfast establishments. Wakeup Calls are conveniently entered by request from the web-based Wakeup Call Manager at the facility front desk. Once a Wakeup Call is set, DSX automatically rings the room telephone at the designated time. When the guest answers, a voice prompt announces the wakeup. If the guest doesn’t answer, DSX waits 30 seconds and tries again. If the guest doesn’t answer the second call, DSX cancels the wakeup.

Wakeup Call administration and reporting is handled by the embedded Wakeup Call Manager running in a web browser. To set a wakeup, the front desk employee uses the Wakeup Call Assignment section to:

Enter the room’s extension number.

Set the day, hour, and minute for the wakeup and then click Save. (Available times are any future time for the current day and any time on the following day.)

Click Save to set the wakeup.

Once set, a pending wakeup is added to the Wakeup Call Status section. This section shows extension, name, day, and time of the wakeup as well as the wakeup status. The most common status messages can be:

Pending (a future wakeup that has not yet occurred)

Answered (a delivered wakeup that the guest answered)

Not Answered (a delivered wakeup that the guest did not answer)

Cancelled (an undelivered wakeup the front desk cancelled)

Additionally, the Wakeup Call Status section shows the total number of pending wakeups. It also allows the front desk to click an item in the list to cancel it, change the wakeup time, or set a new time for a new guest.

Wakeup Call requires an NEC DSX IntraMail Pro 4 Port or NEC DSX Intramail Pro 8 Port Voicemail and DSX Software version 3.40.11 or higher.

NEC has release software version 3.32 for the NEC DSX telephone system. The new software adds the following new features:

Home Automation Integration
DSX home Automation Integration allows a DSX telephone to control the features of a connected HAI Home Automation System

Direct Inward Dialing Translate to System Speed Dial
The DID Translation Table destinations can now be set to a System Speed Dial bin (Line or Line Group).

IntraMail: Auto Play Messages
Auto Play Messages allows the subscriber to log into their mailbox and listen to their new messages, in order, without pressing any additional keys or dialing digits. This is a benefit for mobile users retrieving the messages remotely. After logging into their mailbox, the remote subscriber can just stay on the line and hear their new messages play one after the other. The subscriber can interrupt Auto Play at any time and handle their messages normally.

IntraMail: Message Disposition
If a subscriber has Email Integration enabled for their mailbox, the system can automatically dispose of a new message when the email is sent.

MAC Address Display
To aid in router setup, the system’s MAC address is available from the System Administrator and from the telephone.

Paging Answer
If an extension has a Page key, the user can press the flashing key during a page to talk to the page initiator.

SIP Trunking: Inbound SIP Trunk Rotaries
DSX SIP Trunking now supports inbound loop start trunk rotaries.

SIP Trunking: NAT Learning
NAT Learning allows the DSX to automatically learn the WAN IP address of the router to which the system is connected.

Temperature Display
The outside temperature can optionally be displayed on the first line of the telephone display. The temperature is obtained from the National Weather Service (based on the site’s Zip Code) or alternatively from the connected Home Automation System.

VoIP: Immunity to User-Friendly Scanning Agents
Immunity to malicious SIP port scanning from User-Friendly Agents such as SIP Vicious is improved.

In addition to the new features software NEC DSX version 3.32 corrects the following:

Call Forwarding

Correct handling of Call Forwarding codes at a single line extension (Ref. F110512001).

Correct MENU key programming for Call Forwarding Line at a keyset (Ref. F110512002).

SIP Trunking

Improve performance of DTMF (both RFC2833 and inband).

Improve performance of trunk registration algorithm.

Connected properly functioning SIP Trunks will reliably recover and restart after a system reset, software update, or power failure. The intermittent requirement to do an additional system application reset in System: Reset (9001) is no longer necessary.

An issue with Common Registration Mode SIP trunks disconnecting on answer is corrected.

Significant improvements have been made in this software release to the way DSX handles Common Mode registration and DNS. These enhancements increase the stability and overall performance of DSX SIP trunking and further minimize the possibility of SIP Trunk related system resets.

System Administrator

Prevent time out on System Administrator operations that take longer than 30 seconds.

When Reset clicked in the System Administrator, force commit of all changes to files before resetting.

Copy function for all per station and per line programs restored.

VoIP

Maintain list of private IP’s when SIP stations register/deregister so correct contact information can be sent.

Send time update to all IP keysets so their local time is also correct.

Allow Single Line Flash COS option to function for 3rd Party SIP phones as well as single line sets.

Enabled flashing “:” in time on IP Keysets.

DSX System Software Version 3.11 is an important new release that features three major VoIP enhancements: Peer-to-Peer communication between IP extensions, NAT Traversal with Any Router, and Improved ATA and SIP SLT Support.

In addition to multiple bug fixes, DSX System Software Version 3.11 also provides the new IntraMail Message Review feature, enhanced Cascading Message Notification with IntraMail Pro, and improved maintenance functions when used with System Administrator 3.11 or higher.

DSX Software version 3.11 is currently in Beta.

Important New System Features

Peer-to-Peer (p2p)

IP keysets, ATAs, and SIP SLTs connected to another SIP device in the same office do not use VoIP Gateway circuits. They communicate p2p instead. This means you can have 32 SIP devices in an office talking to each other and never use up a VoIP License.

A VoIP License is still required, however, when a SIP device is:

On an outside call.

Participating in a Conference.

Using Room Monitor.

Using an IntraMail mailbox or leaving a message.

Calling a SIP device in another office. - For example, if an on-premise IP keyset calls an IP keyset in a remote office, each IP phone requires a VoIP License.

By default, Peer-to-Peer is enabled for all IP extensions. The system will automatically switch VoIP gateways in and out as required by the call state.

NAT Traversal With Any Router for DSX IP Keysets

NAT Traversal is available with any router without programming. You no longer have to limit your remote offices to the two LinkSys routers we previously recommended.

To set up NAT Traversal:

On the phone system router, forward UDP ports 5060 (SIP) and 1024-1088 (RTP) to the DSX system IP address.

On the DSX IP Keysets, use IP Keyset firmware 1.0.7.2 or higher.

Improved ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) and SIP SLT Support

Major improvements have been made to the DSX integration with third-party ATAs and SLTs. In general, ATAs and SIP SLTs work the same as local analog single line sets.

Internal Modem Automatically Disabled when VoIP Daughter Board Installed

To protect the viability of VoIP resources when the VoIP Daughter Board is installed, the internal modem is automatically disabled. The reliability of DSX VoIP could be compromised if both were enabled simultaneously.

Hot Dial Pad Follows Prime Line

If an extension has Hot Dial Pad enabled 2111-11:Hot Dial Pad and a Prime Line Set in 2114-01: Prime Line, any digits the user dials on the dial pad will go out over the Prime Line. In prior versions, Hot Dial Pad would always follow Intercom Prime Line.

Hotline Keys for Voice Mail Ports

An extension user can assign IntraMail ports (501-508) to Hotline keys in Menu: Key Assignment: Feature Keys (Menu + 51). This can be a useful visual tool for monitoring voice mail port usage.

Additional Silence Elimination for Messages

IntraMail will automatically remove 4.5 seconds of silence from any message recording that is paused due to silence. In addition to cleaning up normal messages, it will also help to eliminate “hang up” messages because they will be too short to be saved.

Important New IntraMail Features

Message Review

After a caller leaves a message they can review their message before sending. After reviewing the message they can rerecord it, erase it, or send it to the recipient unchanged. Message Review is available to both co-workers and outside callers.

Cascading Message Notification Enhanced

For added flexibility, IntraMail Pro Cascading Message Notification now allows multiple cycles through the list of destinations. You can, for example, have notification cascade through each destination once and then repeat the cycle. Additionally, the number of busy and RNA attempts per destination can be from 1-99, and the total number of notification cycles can also be from 1-99. This allows for very complex notification cascades if the site requires.

The meaning of the following timer has changed to accommodate these enhancements.

4202-06: Maximum Attempts sets how many times Message Notification cascades through the list of destinations.

IntraMail Maintenance and Prompt Update Features

System Software 3.11 enables all the System Administrator Version 3 Maintenance and Prompt Update features. This includes:

Copying, moving, and erasing mailboxes.

Deleting voice prompt sets that are already installed (e.g., to make more message storage room).

Automated Attendant Call Progress Tone Detection

If an outside line without loop disconnect supervision is answered by the Automated Attendant, and caller hangs up, Call Progress Tone Detection will detect the busy, reorder, or dial tone on the line and hang up. This prevents the call from timing out to the Dial Action Table Timeout destination and, in some configurations, inadvertently setting up a loop.

Software Corrections

* Multicast Paging for All Page Zones

Multicast Paging is now implemented for zone page as well as all call. In prior releases, Multicast Paging was inadvertently restricted to All Call only. This caused zone paging to be unavailable to IP keysets.

* T1/PRI Firmware 4.4

T1/PRI Card Firmware 4.4 corrects the following issues

Allows backplane synchronization with multiple cards.

Enables Presentation Restriction in outbound Caller ID.

Handles Disconnect with Cause if Release is received prior to Call Proceeding.

Download the NEC DSX PC Administrator

The System Administrator is a WindowsTM-based application you can use for programming the NEC DSX-80, 40 and 160 telephone system and maintaining site databases.

The NEC DSX System Administrator provides:

On-Line Programming (Direct Connection)

With the PC connected to the telephone system’s USB port, Ethernet port, or Built-In Modem you can make immediate changes to the NEC DSX telephone system programming. While connected, the System Administrator also allows you to save your new data to a file on the PC hard disk, or upload a “template” database from your PC to the system.

Remote Programming

Using an IP or modem connection between your PC and the remote system, you can customize a customer’s system without leaving your office.

Database Save and Restore

Use the System Administrator to save a site’s data to your PC hard disk. You can easily restore the saved data later on, if required.

IntraMail Backup and Restore Utility

The IntraMail Utility allows you to use the System Administrator to back up IntraMail messages to your PC hard drive. Once backed up, you can also use this utility to restore the saved messages.

IntraMail Import Utility

The IntraMail Import Utility is the part of the IntraMail Utility that allows you to import custom-recorded wav files for use to use for your outgoing messages (e.g., Greetings, Instruction Menus, etc.).

The NEC DSX Administrator uses TCP port 8000 for programming. In order to program the system remotely using the PC Adminstrator port 8000 in the Firewall/Router will need to be forwarded to the local IP address of the NEC DSX phone system.

To determine the local IP address or change the local IP address of an NEC DSX phone system see this post
